Define who cannot hear what
Check whether the complaint concerns the owner’s voice reaching another person or the owner hearing playback. A speaker fault and an input fault can sound similar in a rushed description. Note connected headsets and which app or call mode was being used.
Build a small recording comparison
Apple describes checking voice recordings and videos when investigating microphone complaints. Use the supported method for the device and the owner’s permission. Compare the same short phrase in the relevant modes, then play it through a known-working output so a playback fault does not confuse the result.
Treat app access as a separate question
If one app alone fails, inspect its microphone permission with the owner and consult its support guidance. Avoid inserting tools or liquids into microphone openings. Preserve only the observations needed for diagnosis; private voice recordings should not become portfolio material without specific consent.
Recordings work but one app fails
If a permitted voice recording is clear but one calling app remains silent, investigate that app’s access and configuration first. Preserve the comparison result. Replacing a microphone without explaining the working recording would leave a gap in the reasoning.
