Name the audio path that fails
'No sound' can mean silent media, no ringtone, a quiet call earpiece, distorted speakerphone or a microphone problem heard by the other caller. Start by asking which activity fails and what still works. Those answers help the technician choose a meaningful check instead of ordering the first audio part that comes to mind.
Create a small test record with separate rows for media playback, ringtone, a normal call and speakerphone. Use ordinary listening levels and permitted test audio. Note whether the failure is permanent or intermittent and whether it began after a fall, liquid exposure or an earlier repair.
Check settings and accessories first
Apple's speaker guidance includes checking sound settings, removing obstructing cases and comparing call behaviour. For another phone, use its maker's corresponding instructions. Also establish whether audio is intentionally going to connected headphones, a car system or another external output before describing the built-in speaker as defective.
Change one relevant setting or connection at a time, then repeat the same test. If sound returns after disconnecting an accessory, document that result. It narrows the question; it does not prove that every speaker, microphone and audio circuit is working correctly.
Inspect without creating a second problem
Look for an obvious obstruction around the opening without pushing a pin, blade or liquid into it. Cleaning methods and permitted materials depend on the device. Aggressive scraping can damage a mesh or membrane and make a later inspection harder to interpret.
Distortion is also worth describing precisely: does it occur with every recording or only one file, at ordinary volume or only near maximum, and through all outputs or only one? A damaged recording and a damaged transducer can sound similar in a single quick demonstration.
Verify the exact complaint after service
A post-repair check should repeat the original failing activity, not stop after one sound plays. If the complaint concerned calls, test the relevant call path with permission. If it concerned intermittent distortion, agree on the observation period and state what could not be reproduced.
Record any limitations before returning the device. An invoice or training note that separates 'tested and working' from 'not tested' is more useful than a blanket claim that the phone is fully repaired. This habit connects customer communication with the technical diagnosis.
