Record the failure type
A camera not listed by the system, a black picture and an app denied access are different symptoms. Capture the exact message and app name. Check a harmless camera preview without saving private images or opening the owner’s meeting history.
Inspect supported controls
Microsoft highlights physical camera switches or buttons, privacy settings and driver checks. Use the laptop’s documentation to identify its controls. Compare the system camera app with the original failing app, keeping permission changes narrow and owner-approved.
Verify image and use separately
If the camera becomes visible, confirm that the original app can use it under the agreed permissions. A preview that works once does not explain an intermittent disconnection. Record what changed and stop speculative driver removal if the next step lacks a clear reason. Persistent detection issues need model-specific assessment.
One conferencing app cannot use the camera
If a supported system preview works, document it and inspect the failing app’s access and selection. That comparison makes a general camera replacement less justified at this stage. It does not prove that every camera feature has been tested.
Your practice record
- Not detected, black preview or access error
- Physical privacy control checked
- System app versus original app
- Change and repeat test recorded
