Record the disconnection pattern
Note whether the Wi-Fi network disappears, the laptop disconnects or internet access stops while it remains connected. Add location, approximate timing and whether the system had just resumed from sleep. These distinctions prevent a vague complaint from turning into an unnecessary card replacement.
Compare without changing everything
Microsoft provides staged Windows Wi-Fi troubleshooting. Compare another permitted device on the same network and the laptop on another trusted network where practical. Record any dock, adapter or recent system change. Do not alter managed network security or router configuration without authority.
Use evidence for the next step
If only one network is affected, involve its administrator. If the laptop repeatedly fails across suitable networks, provide the pattern and system messages for further assessment. Avoid downloading unknown driver bundles. A brief stable connection at the counter does not establish that an intermittent complaint has been resolved.
Disconnections happen after lid closure
Record the precise power-state transition and whether other devices stay connected. A stable connection immediately after startup does not reproduce the same condition. Test the agreed transition with saved work and the model’s supported procedure.
Your practice record
- Connection loss or internet-only loss
- Sleep and location context
- Second device comparison
- Trusted alternative network result
