Record the repeatable stopping point
Ask whether charging stops at a similar level each time and whether the laptop otherwise runs normally. Capture the battery message, recognised adapter and selected power utility. Do not assume that failure to reach 100% is always a defect.
Inspect the actual charging policy
Dell documents smart charging behaviour on supported systems, including intentionally suspended charging. Read the exact model’s settings and instructions; names and thresholds vary. Do not apply one published percentage table as a universal rule for every laptop.
Change settings only for an agreed reason
Explain a relevant supported comparison before altering the owner’s charging preference, then restore it if the change was temporary. If the observed behaviour does not match the configured policy, record that mismatch for assessment. Do not bypass battery protections or claim that a threshold setting proves the whole charging system is healthy.
A configured limit matches the stopping level
If the documented charging policy explains the observed stop point, record that relationship. Discuss whether the owner wants the setting changed. Do not sell a replacement solely because the displayed percentage does not reach full charge.
Your practice record
- Approximate stop point and message
- Model-specific charge setting
- Adapter recognition
- Temporary changes restored
