Know which material is on the bench
Ask the instructor to identify the solder product and its manufacturer information. Different materials and assemblies can require different processes. A reel’s appearance or a familiar brand colour is not enough to establish alloy or suitability.
Follow the approved workshop method
Use the documented equipment, ventilation, hygiene and handling arrangements. Do not select a heat setting from an unrelated repair clip and assume it matches the material, tip, board and task. The instructor should explain how the chosen process is established.
Make results traceable
In the practice record, identify the material and task along with the inspection outcome. If an exercise is repeated with a changed material, label that change rather than comparing the results as identical conditions. Never describe an attractive joint photograph as proof that the entire device has passed functional testing.
A repeat exercise uses a different solder product
Record the change before comparing results. Material and process conditions belong in the evidence, even when both joints look similar. The instructor should decide whether the new material is appropriate and how its handling differs.
Your practice record
- Material and product recorded
- Approved process identified
- Relevant handling instructions
- Inspection separated from device function
Repair procedures involve heat, electricity, fragile parts and customer data. Practise under qualified supervision and work only on devices you are authorized to service.
