Capture the correct evidence
A screenshot records an image generated by the device. A photograph records what a viewer sees on the physical screen. When a line, colour patch or flicker is reported, these are different kinds of evidence. Obtain permission before capturing either and exclude personal content.
Compare a harmless test image
View a non-private screenshot on another known-working display. If the physical screen photograph shows an issue that the transferred screenshot does not, record that distinction. It can guide display-path investigation but does not identify whether a panel, connector, driver or another component is responsible.
Record the limitations
Some faults are intermittent, brightness-dependent or absent during capture. A normal screenshot cannot certify that a phone’s display hardware is healthy. Note the original app, brightness conditions and whether the defect appears consistently. Do not press a damaged screen or flex the device to create a dramatic demonstration.
A line is absent from the transferred screenshot
This supports investigating the physical display path, but does not uniquely identify the panel. Record both views with comparable content. A technician still needs the relevant model information and further evidence before recommending a component.
Your practice record
- Photograph and screenshot labelled separately
- Known-working comparison display
- Brightness and app context
- Intermittent capture limitations
Repair procedures involve heat, electricity, fragile parts and customer data. Practise under qualified supervision and work only on devices you are authorized to service.
