Separate arrival from the alert
Ask whether a message is absent from the app or present without a sound or banner. Those observations point to different questions. Record the app, approximate delay, network and whether the phone was locked. Avoid using private customer conversations for a public demonstration.
Create a controlled comparison
With consenting participants, send a harmless test message and note the sender’s time, recipient’s visible arrival and alert behaviour. Compare the same app in the foreground and background. Keep ordinary notification preferences unchanged during the first comparison so the baseline remains meaningful.
Investigate the narrowest failing layer
If one app behaves differently, consult that app’s official guidance and the device’s notification settings. If all online tasks are delayed, examine connectivity separately. The record should show what happened, not claim that a particular battery or radio component caused an unmeasured delay. Escalate persistent issues with the timing evidence.
The message is present without an alert
If opening an app reveals the message immediately but no banner appeared earlier, record arrival and alert behaviour separately. The next question concerns notification handling, not automatically the network. A controlled timing test is more useful than repeated guesses.
Your practice record
- Time sent, visible arrival and alert
- Locked or unlocked state
- Foreground versus background
- One app or multiple apps
Repair procedures involve heat, electricity, fragile parts and customer data. Practise under qualified supervision and work only on devices you are authorized to service.
